Welcome to Makin’ Waves Rex

Hello, my name is Diane Maki, owner and breeder at Makin’ Waves Rex Cornish Rex Cattery.  I am drawn to the Cornish Rex breed because they don’t shed and they are a very personable cat.  I love that they want to be around you, they meet you at the door when you come home and they are extremely playful.

I started with Cornish Rex cats after attending a cat show that I had a very good experience at.  I then bought my first cat Rich Sun Bo Tara who was born in Japan and was a grand champion show cat.  Cory was my first Cornish Rex female.  The first time I bred Bo Tara and Cory it was such a positive experience.  They produced a CFA Grand Champion named Camilla. Through the years I have bred several grand champions, including Camilla, and CornBread Dorthea.

Our kittens are raised in a home environment where they receive lots of love and attention.  While some of our kittens have gone on to become grand champions, many will become wonderful pets and friends for Cornish Rex lovers around the globe!  Call me for more details about the kittens we have available, and any other questions you may have about Makin’ Waves Rex after you read our FAQ page on this website.

Thank you!

Diane Maki

Cornish Rex Cats

A Cornish Rex is breed of cat known for it’s unique coat of hair and playful personality. The coat of a Cornish Rex has an extremely fine marcel curl, the softest of any cat breed. However, their light coat means that they are best suited for indoor living in warm and dry conditions. Their body temperature is slightly higher than most cats, and these cats tend to hang around in warm areas, including humans.

Often the breed is referred to as the Greyhound of the cats, because of the sleek appearance and the galloping run characteristic of the breed. The Cornish Rex is considered to be the fastest domestic cat. The extreme long legs and strong hind quarters as resembling the Greyhound & other race dogs gives them a huge distance edge over any other felines.

These cats tend to stay playful and kittenish throughout their long lives. Some Cornish Rexes like to play fetch, race other pets, or do acrobatic jumps. The Cornish Rex is an adventurous cat and is very intelligent. It can readily adapt to new situations and will explore wherever it can go. Some humans consider its antics to be deliberately mischievous. The Rex is extremely curious, seeks out the company of people and is friendly towards other companion animals.

Cornish Rex cats come in a wide variety of coat colours and patterns, outlined in the standard: solids, including white, black, chocolate, orange and the dilutes blue, lilac and cream; all forms of tabby including classic, mackerel and ticked tabbies, bicolor “tuxedo” coat in many colours, tortoiseshell, “smoke” colours and the elegant colour-point pattern standard in the Siamese breed.
